6.4 Student Evaluation and Promotion

6.4.1 Degree Requirements

Students in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy must complete a total of 105 course credits, successfully complete all the courses in the curriculum, and have a CGPA of at least 2.3 in all courses in the Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy curriculum to obtain the degree of B.Sc.(Occ. Ther.) or the degree of B.Sc.(Phys.Ther.).

Due to the sequential nature of the programs the Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy programs are full-time programs of study.

The Evaluation System is multi-faceted and under constant review by the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy. The School reserves the right to change rules and regulations at any time, although in general such changes will not come into effect in the middle of an academic year/promotion period. A specific protocol for longitudinal evaluation of professionalism is ongoing. For complete School regulations, reference should be made to the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy CD ROM and student handbook and course guide which is updated annually, and can be found on the Web at www.medicine.mcgill.ca/spot.

For the purposes of evaluation, the three year curriculum is broken down into the following promotion periods:
Promotion Period 1 - U1- beginning of September to end of April
Promotion Period 2 - U1- beginning of May to end of August
Promotion Period 3 - U2 -beginning of September to end of April
Promotion Period 4 - U2- beginning of May to beginning of
September
Promotion Period 5 - U3- beginning of September to mid
December
Promotion Period 6 - U3- beginning of January to beginning of February
Promotion Period 7 - U3- February (2nd week) to end of April
